Outreach

Not only are we called to grow in our faith, but we’re also called to put our faith into action to make the world look a little more like heaven. The fruit of our faith is made evident by the countless ways we serve our community & world in the name of Christ. In fact, it is our growing relationship with Christ that continually motivates us to love others the way God loves us. We invite you to join us as we put our faith into action!

OUTREACH MINISTRY OPPORTUNITIES
(Please contact the church office for details.)

First Serve Saturday
On the first Saturday of almost every month, our congregation volunteers a couple hours in the morning helping 3 local organizations:

  • The Corner Table in Newton as we prepare & deliver bag lunches to be served to the folks who come to them for assistance.
  • Abernathy Laurels Retirement Community in Newton as we prepare flower arrangements & deliver them to the rooms of residents.
  • The Mission Response Center in Terrell, which houses emergency relief supplies for those in our region affected by natural disaster.

In addition, we also frequently take on special projects (such as wheelchair ramps, sidewalks, floor repair, painting, etc.) in order to meet the needs of folks in our community.

Carolina Cross Connection
For one week each year a group of supervised teens take a trip to serve folks in need within Western North Carolina.

Summer Literacy Camp
For one week each summer our congregation offers a VBS-Style literacy camp for elementary school students in an effort to both sharpen the skills
they learned in school & to help them cultivate their faith.

Reading Buddies
Throughout the school year, our volunteers consistently meet for 30 minutes each week with an elementary school student who needs a little extra encouragement.

Missional Network Oppotunities
Our congregation belongs to a network of local United Methodist churches, which provides ongoing assistance to the staff & students at Catawba Rosenwald School in a variety of different ways.

Friends of Christ
Friends of Christ is an outreach gospel music ministry formed in May of 1997 and founded on the belief that God’s love should be joyously proclaimed. We sing Southern and contemporary gospel music in churches, nursing homes, prisons, hospitals, benefits, civic organizations, and family celebrations. The group of eight members is self-supported and does not accept a fee because we see our singing as a worship experience. For more information call directors Lynn and Linda Frye at 828-234-5745 or email us at friendsofchrist@bellsouth.net.
